Blog / May Update

I decided it was time to spruce up my blog (maybe it will motivate me to keep writing). Thanks to my friend and now fellow blogger, Jessica, I found a great site for backgrounds and buttons and all of these wonderful blog tools that I never knew existed. There are so many cute backgrounds and I probably could have gone back and forth for hours, but then I saw this one and it was called Katie girl, so naturally I had to have it!

May has turned out to be a fairly busy month for us. Ryan has been working a lot, especially on the weekends, but we have also had a lot going on. In one weekend Jenny graduated, it was Ryan's birthday and Mother's Day. Needless to say it was a lot of really great family time. The next weekend Jenny had her second bridal shower hosted by two of my mom's closest friends. Instead of going on and on about all of these fun events, I thought I would just summarize with some pictures.

The Miracle League

My sister is the biggest baseball fan I know. She spends most of her free time looking up baseball facts about the Cubs and Braves. And now that it is officially baseball season, she is ecstatic. And with the start of baseball season, that means her league starts up too!! So in the spirit of springtime, I thought I would post some pictures of one of her games!!

The Miracle League is a great place where special needs children and adults can enjoy a game of baseball. The league started in 1999, and I guess I don't really know how long my sister has been playing, but I know it has been several years. They have a special field that can accommodate wheel chairs and make it easy to play on for those who have difficulty walking. Each player gets to bat in an inning and everyone scores, so that means everyone wins!! My sister plays for the Braves and they have never lost a game, I bet the real Braves wish they had her record! Click here for more information on The Miracle League.

Everyone has a "buddy" to help in the field and cover up when a big hitter is up! This is my dad with Hollywood aka Corey

Woo Hoo

So I haven't blogged all week because I have been trying to get ready for my friend's wedding this weekend. I have a good friend staying with me so I have been furiously cleaning my house in preparation. Not to mention today is tax day so I've been trying to get our taxes done. Yes, I realized I waited until the last minute and yes I did that last year and yes, I did say I would do them earlier next year but will probably yet again wait until the last minute. It is a vicious cycle that I can't stop. But I digress.

The good news I have to share is that my ugly, deep pot hole has been fixed! That's right, the city actually listened and fixed the pot hole. I won't mention that the filling is already sinking and will probably be back to where it was in a month and I asked them to repave the whole street, but they wouldn't, because the good news is my car will not sink into the deep abyss that was the hole! I came home from work last Friday and to my elation, it was fixed. I told Ryan we had to go out to dinner to celebrate. Now, I know this sounds a little ridiculous, but when you put your mind to something that you want and have to deal with the governement to get it, it's very rewarding when it is fulfilled.

Now on to my next mission...I'm trying to get my apartment complex to recycle. I have sent emails and voicemails with no response. I don't think this guy at the complex realizes who he is dealing with, I will get what I want! More to follow...

P.s. when I can find the time I will post my latest pictures! I took some of my sister's baseball game and I'm excited to share them!!

On a mission

One thing I noticed after Ryan and I got married is that we settled in and do not have much to do. I always heard it slows down after you get married, but I didn't really believe it. But, I have found I try to find ways to keep myself busy. As I said before, Ryan and I started playing Gin Rummy, but that was short lived, so I have had to find other ways to occupy my time. On Tuesday, I contacted Commuter Dude from 11Alive and let me tell you why.

Everyday, I come home from work and I feel like I’m on a test drive course, I have to swerve and dodge a million pot holes on my street just to get home. Ryan and I moved to Dunwoody because we thought it would be a nice area to start our lives together and we found an apartment we really liked. So we settled in, not realizing what our commute would be at the time. The road we live off of has so many patches, that aren’t really fixing the problem, as well as a huge hole at the front of our complex.

(picture does not do the hole justice, it is much deeper in person)

At first the pot hole didn’t bother me so much. I was driving the rodeo and if I’m being honest, I didn’t care about that car. I had been driving it for eight years and it was ten years old, so needless to say it was on its last leg. I didn’t expect to be getting rid of it when I did, but that’s a whole different story for a different day, but the point is, I have a new car. This is the nicest car I have ever owned and I would like to try to keep it nice for a long time. This is when my aggravation started. Being that I am not driving an SUV anymore, if my car were to accidentally succumb to this hole, I would die. I’m not trying to be to materialistic, but I love this car (not to mention the expense to fix it)!! So everyday on my way home from work I get a nervous feeling in my stomach as I approach our apartment complex. Am I going to miss it? Have I moved far enough over? Are there other cars coming that I might swerve into? As you can see, it’s a very stressful two minutes of my life. And with nothing better to do, I want it fixed. Hence, my email to Commuter Dude.

I was surprised to hear back from his assistant the next morning. She asked me to take a few pictures of the problem and give here a few more details about how deep the hole is and the exact location. So, I dragged (literally) Ryan outside with me to take pictures! He was not a happy camper, but came along anyways. Apparently he does not feel the need to fix the pot hole as much as I do. When I sent the pictures back I received a phone call minutes later. They want to put me on the show to talk about getting the road fixed. She said it is better when they can put people on air because it helps hold the city accountable for fixing the problem. I'm not so sure about being on TV, i just want it fixed, but it could be exciting. We still have to figure out if my schedule will work out, so I'll let you know if I will get my 15 minutes of fame! More to follow!
